● DiDi Vaccinate supports South Africans to get vaccinated during the global pandemic
● South Africans used their DiDi vouchers during recent Vooma Vaccination weekends
● Parents can now use their DiDi voucher to take their 12-17 year olds to get vaccinated
Gauteng, South Africa, 25 October 2021 – On 27 September 2021, DiDi, the world’s leading mobility platform, rolled out its vaccination drive, DiDi Vaccinate. To support our country’s journey to herd immunity,DiDi is subsidising approximately R1.5 million worth of trips to help get South Africans to and from vaccination sites in Gauteng, Cape Town and Gqeberha.
It has been one month since DiDi rolled out its DiDi Vaccinate initiative, and so far 30, 920 vouchers of the 36, 500 available have already been redeemed. Carina Smith-Allin, DiDi’s Head of PR and Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, comments that the brand is incredibly excited by this uptake and DiDi’s involvement in helping South Africans get vaccinated against COVID-19. “With only a limited number of vouchers still available, and vaccinations now open for children aged 12 – 17, we would like to encourage parents to redeem their vouchers and accompany their minors to their closest vaccination site,” she adds.
“DiDi fully supports our Government’s initiatives aimed at increasing vaccination uptake. Over the Vooma Vaccination weekend (1 – 3 October), we saw one of our biggest uptake of vouchers beingredeemed. These numbers reinforce our commitment to being so much more than just another ride-hailing service,” Smith-Allin concludes.
All eligible riders registered on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) and DiDi’s Vaccine application system qualify for a return voucher, entitling them to a R40 discount on their trip (total value of R80). This voucher will expire 30 days after receipt. Vouchers can be redeemed via a separate product line for vaccination trips on the easy-to-use DiDi app interface. Riders will need to enter their vaccination appointment details to receive the return trip voucher.
