Public Sector Round Table Webinar

Enhanced E-service delivery via Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for all citizens. The conversation will deal with the problems of how ICT in governance may be constructed to facilitate greater accountability, transparency and the reduction of corruption through better financial, public information management, procurement and administrative systems. 


Unpacking the challenges/barriers that South African citizens and government encounter on the process of effective and efficient service delivery through the use of ICT as well as bridging the digital divide. Good governance rests on the effective and efficient use of ICT and bridging the digital divide amongst all citizens.

Dr Onkgopotse JJ Tabane (moderator)

Dr Onkgopotse JJ Tabane is the author of ‘Let’s Talk Frankly’ and is a TV and radio talk show host. He holds a PhD in Media Studies from Wits University and a Master’s Degree in Political Economy from Nelson Mandela University. You can follow him on Twitter, @JJTabane.

Hon. Ayanda Dlodlo, Minister, Public Service and Administration

Ayanda Dlodlo is the former State Security Minister. She was appointed as the Minister of Public Service and Administration on the 5th of August 2021.

Ms Dlodlo (born 22 May 1963) has served as Minister of Public Service & Administration, Home Affairs and Communications. She is a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) and serves as the chairperson of the Legislature and Governance subcommittee. Ms Dlodlo is also the South African Representative on the Open Government Partnership.

Ms Dlodlo served as the Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration, a position she was first appointed to on 1 November 2010 and re-appointed to on 26 May 2014 until 30 March 2017.

She holds post graduate qualifications in Shipping and Transport Management, Management Development, Business Management and Executive Development. 

She is a former National Deputy Head of the Directorate of Special Operations, an agency investigating serious crime. Prior to this she was the Head of Department for the Department of Safety and Security in the Gauteng Province.

She has worked at the SA National Ports Authority, SA Freight Rail Company and has also worked on special assignments for the New York and New Jersey Port Authority as well as the Associated British Ports. Whilst in exile, Ms Dlodlo obtained military training in Angola and USSR

Professor Modimowabarwa Kanyane

Professor Modimowabarwa Kanyane is the Executive Dean:Faculty of Management, Commerce and Law at the University of Venda and former Research Director at the Human Sciences Research Council. He is a renowned researcher in South Africa who has an extensive range of experience in public ethics, accountability and public service delivery, local government, and intergovernmental relations within the broader field of Public Administration, Management and Development. Professor Kanyane participated in BRICS activities as SABTT Chair of the Political and Economic Governance Cluster and various fourth industrial revolution discussions. He obtained a PhD in Public Administration from the University of Pretoria and obtained a Certificate in International Economic and Financial Negotiations from the International Institute of Public Administration in France. He has published over 100 scientific academic and research outputs, including client reports, books, book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. His most recent book publication is edited byMzoSirayi, Modimowabarwa Kanyane & Giulio Verdini(2021), Culture and Rural-Urban Revitalization in South Africa: Indigenous Knowledge, Policies and Planning, Routledge: London as well as journal publications Kanyane, M & Sambo, VT (2021) State of State-Owned Enterprises’ Governance in BRICS Countries,African Journal of Governance and Development and Factions and Factionalism in South African Party, Politikon.

Sunil Geness

Sunil Geness is Director of Global Government Affairs & CSR Africa, Global Sustainability Lead Africa.  Geness has vast experience in corporate and public organisations. .  In his various capacities he has represented the South African Government and SAP on numerous occasions at high level  meetings at the African Union, European Union, European Commission, United Nations, the World Bank, BRICS and other multilateral agencies.   Geness is a member of the United Nations Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the United Nations E-Government Survey and serves as SAP’s representative on the World Economic Forum(WEF), Global Plastic Action Partnership for the Africa Working Group. Geness has a passion for science, technology and innovation and began his career as a physical science and electronics teacher before he moved on to develop a wide range of experience in Government, Quasi-Government and Private sector organisations. These roles have included a policy making and implementation stint at the South African National Government, various programmes in South African provinces, a government modernization role and subsequently a political advisory role at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), before he was head-hunted by the German global software giant-SAP. Geness holds a Bachelor of Commerce (UNISA), Bachelor of Commerce Honours Cum Laude (UNISA), Master of Management (Witwatersrand), HED (Springfield College) and has been the recipient of scholarships for executive leadership programmes at leading global business schools in France( INSEAD), the United Kingdom (Birmingham) and the United States (Harvard).  A keen advocate of sustainability and environmentalism, he received the World Wide Fund (WWF), One Planet Leaders, sustainability scholarship in 2009 and is currently pursuing a PHD.

Percy Letwaba, Head of Sales: Public Sector and Healthcare, SAP Southern Africa

Percy joined SAP in 2018 as a Global Account Director responsible for the Utilities Industry and has been in his current role as Head of Sales for Public Sector since January 2021. Prior to joining SAP, Percy spent most of his time in Management Consulting supporting mainly Public Sector customers through their business transformation journeys. Percy has extensive experience in delivering large scale client engagements across Public Sector, Utilities, Health, Postal and Financial Services.
